Osen II

The Horiyoshi III Collection

by Kofuu Senjuu Publications

Osen II: The Horiyoshi III Collection is the fifth book in the premium Irezumi book series and features the second half of the previously-unpublished collection of artwork by the Yokohama Irezumi master, Osen.

This large, deluxe, threadbound with embossed cover and spine hardcover is in a limited-edition of 600 copies printed in Sweden by Kofuu Senjuu Publications using a Komori printing press by Göteborstryckeriet. Their last publication, OSEN I, was sold out within four months and now Osen II is on course to break the record with over half of the worldwide supply already sold as of its release!

Active during the 1950s and '60s, very little is known about Osen and all that remains of his work is a brilliant collection of paintings and drawings for Japanese traditional tattooing collected by Horiyoshi III of Yokohama over many years. The art of Osen is an impressive testament to how innovative a single individual can be when interpreting a strong visual tradition. His work has been used by Yokohama-based tattoo masters Muramatsu Yoshitsugu (Horiyoshi I) who befriended the artist, as well as Horiyoshi II and Horiyoshi III. Although he himself was not a tattooist, Osen has had a tremendous impact on the development of the traditional Japanese tattoo we see today and no individual seriously interested in Irezumi should go without viewing the collection presented in this book.
